Adeola TELLA-WILLIAM

Adeola Tella-Williams has been an educator for over 20 years, bringing a wealth of experience and a global perspective to her work. She is a noteworthy example of the African Diaspora. Born in Queens, New York, to a Jamaican mother and a Nigerian father, she was raised in Nigeria before returning to the United States, where she completed middle and high school.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Elementary Education from Virginia Union University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Richmond, VA. She went on to complete a Master’s degree in Social Studies and Secondary Education at Hofstra University and later obtained an Administration degree from the College of New Rochelle. A dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Adeola is committed to its mission of promoting women's health, education, and service to all mankind. She served as secretary of the Gift of Writing Foundation from 2018 to 2020 and currently holds the position of vice president. Passionate about giving back, she actively serves her community locally and internationally.
Adeola began her teaching career in East New York, Brooklyn, in 1999 before taking an opportunity to teach in Japan from September to December 2000. In 2001, she joined a local district in Long Island, NY, where she has taught high school social studies and is now a building administrator. In 2016, she took a sabbatical to teach middle school humanities at an American international school in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, accompanied by her husband and two children. Upon returning to Long Island, she pioneered the district’s first Model United Nations program, further enriching students’ global awareness. Her dedication to education earned her the Social Studies Teacher of the Year award from the Long Island Council of Social Studies in 2023.
Beyond her professional career, Adeola enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, reading, and exploring historical sites around the world. Her ultimate goal is to establish an exchange program that provides American teenagers with the opportunity to travel to Nigeria, fostering cultural understanding and global connections.
